WASILLA — Junior Ethan Keenan scored a pair of goals to lead Wasilla to a 3-2 Northern Lights Conference win over Grace Christian Friday during a soggy match at Wasilla High’s Veterans Memorial Field.
“He’s really been coming on the last two or three games,” Wasilla head coach Blake Livingston said of Keenan, who also netted a goal during a 6-0 win over Thunder Mountain on Thursday. “He’s very technically gifted, very fast. One of our strengths is our team speed. Any time there’s a through ball, there’s potential for a breakaway.”
That’s exactly what happened during the second half against Grace. With the teams tied at 2, senior Kyler Perry sent a ball up the middle. Keenan, with his speed, chased the ball down to create a breakaway, and Keenan scored during the 60th minute to give the Warriors the 3-2 lead.
Perry also recorded an assist on Keenan’s first goal. Later in the first half, junior Cash McGregor scored on a header set up by a Wasilla corner kick.
Grace scored its first goal during the second minute of regulation to take an early lead.
“They have a solid keeper, they’re pretty skilled,” Livingston said of the Grizzlies, who beat Palmer earlier this week. “We tried to play a possession game. I felt like in the second half we established more of a presence in the midfield, and controlled the pace of the game.”
Oleg Lozko netted a hat trick to lead the Warriors to the 6-0 win over Thunder Mountain Thursday. Keenan, Elijah Crawford and Trout Millhouse also added goals.
Corey Hogan earned the shutout in the Warrior net.
