Even before I started the Trim To Win challenge, I hit Subway to grab a sandwich on a somewhat regular basis. But since, I’ve found myself stopping by Subway much more.
One of my goals has been to try to avoid the typical fast food burger factories as much as possible. I’m proud to say that since this contest started, I have stayed away from those restaurants completely.
No McDonalds. No Burger King. No Arby’s. I haven’t even hit Taco Bell.
When I am out and about, looking for a quick option for lunch or dinner I head toward Subway. Actually, sometimes I feel like I’m the second coming of Jared Fogle, who about a decade ago emerged as the sandwich chain’s poster boy. Fogle apparently lost more than 200 pounds while maintaining a diet that consisted mostly of Subway sandwiches
Subway sandwiches are a nice alternative. I obviously have to avoid the meatball sub or anything with bacon or salami. I pass on the cheese and mayo. Actually, I usually get the same sub all the time. It’s oven-roasted chicken breast on wheat bread with most of the vegetables and the fat-free honey mustard sauce.
The foot long is only 640 calories, according to Subway, with 10 grams of fat. Compare that to the average big burger and fries at some of the popular fast food places and you’ll be shocked.
Since I’m blogging about Subway, maybe they’ll send a sandwich gift card my way? I am willing to sell the naming rights to this blog in exchange for some free sandwiches. I am sure my bosses will be cool with that, right? According to recent news, Jared has fallen off the Subway wagon and packed on a few pounds. If Jared grows too big for the Subway campaign, I can step in.
Continued luck to all,
JB
