The Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund is accepting applications for a six-month paid internship at the Coalition for Juvenile Justice in Washington, D.C.
Applicants must be Alaska residents, at least 21 years old, and desiring or currently pursuing a career in education, youth service or public service.
The internship starting date is flexible but must be completed within six consecutive months from Oct. 16 to Sept. 30, 2004.
Applications must be postmarked no later tahn Sept. 30.
They should include a cover letter; resume listing the applicant's work, education, relevant experience, and public service; a written essay of up to 500 words indicating the applicant's career goals or public policy aspirations; and three letters of reference with contact information for each.
The documents should be sent in one packet via U.S. Postal Service to: Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund, Attn: Tom Begich, executive director, P.O. Box 142711, Anchorage AK 99514-2711.
Selection will be made and applicants notified by Oct. 16. More information about the internship is available by e-mail at cwrecord@alaska.net.
The program was named after U.S. Congressman Nick Begich, who died in 1972. It has provided more than $1130,000 in scholarships and internships to Alaskans since 1977.
