Thumbs up to Bob Harris’ spectrum “MEA on the right power production path” (Sept. 9 Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman). He accurately and logically lays out why Matanuska Electric Association needs to proceed with its power production efforts as planned and on schedule.
Thumbs down to the majority of the Borough assembly that passed the ill-conceived Borough ordinance requiring more oversight of MEA’s plans. In our view, this ordinance is simply more bureaucratic red tape and will result in needless delay and more expense that will have to be paid by taxpayers and MEA customers.
The Borough will have adequate chances to comment on MEA’s studies via the state and federal permitting processes. The ordinance should be repealed.
