WASILLA - Gov. Sarah Palin has tapped Wes Keller to fill the state House seat being vacated by Rep. Vic Kohring, who resigned last month to fight a federal indictment for alleged extortion and briberty.
Keller, chief of staff for Eagle River state Sen. Fred Dyson, is one of three nominees named Friday by District 14 Republicans.
Palin describes Keller in a prepared statement as a “solid, genuine person of integrity with valuable experience. I am confident he will serve with the independence and dilligence Alaska needs.”
His experience in state government will serve Keller well as a new House member, Palin says in her Tuesday announcement. “Wes' vast experience throughout the state bodes well for our shared mission of all regions working togethre for Alaska's good.”
Prior to his resignation, Kohring had served in the state Legislature for 13 years, and his resignation is effective Thursday.
Keller must still be confirmed by a simple majority of House Republicans.
