WASILLA — The Ketchikan Kings spoiled Wasilla’s season-opener Monday night, edging the Warriors 38-33 at Wasilla High School Monday night.
Jayley Taylor poured in a game-high 21 points to help the Kings upset the three-time defending state champions.
Wasilla, which finished a perfect 33-0 last season, hit the court for the first time since the team graduated all five of its starters from the 2012-13 championship team. Amanda Hutchins led Wasilla with 11 points and eight rebounds. Shayla Johnson added eight points.
The Ketchikan win marked Wasilla’s first girls basketball loss at WHS since West Valley topped the Warriors Dec. 21, 2009.
