WASILLA — Some Valley residents will have a chance to see how their feedback has affected preliminary plans for a section of the Knik -Goose Bay Road.
Representatives from DOWL HKM, the engineering firm contracting the Alaska Department of Transportation reconstruction of the road will hold an open house starting 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Wasilla Area Senior Center. DOWL HKM is tasked only with one section of the road between Vine Road and Settler’s Bay.
An earlier meeting was well-attended, said Mari Gallion, the public involvement planner with the project.
“Over 100 people showed up to that meeting and we have all of their comments logged,” she said.
No hard decisions about the plan have yet been made, though the plan has integrated feedback about the plan, Gallion said.
“It’s a chance for people to see the process,” she said. “We’re still getting comments. There are some things that need to be worked out with people’s access.”
The project aims to improve safety, reduce congestion and increase efficiency for area motorists. Officials with the firm are still working on establishing a firm timetable for construction, Gallion said.
An adjacent project covering the area from Vine Road to Centaur Ave. is being managed by CRW Engineering Group. Construction that project is tentatively set for 2018, according to the project website.
