WASILLA — Knik Goose Bay Pizza Company had to shut its doors to the public over two weeks ago due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the owner found another way to help her community.

As of now, owner Lorrie Moffit is taking calls from the public who want to pledge a pizza for a local senior. She said that she normally has four employees and an extra, occasional driver. Right now it’s just her going into to the company kitchen, baking the pizzas and delivering them to seniors.

“We want to be able to protect the seniors and make sure they’re fed… And provide some social interaction and remind them that they are not forgotten,” Moffitt said.

Moffitt said that her son has a pacemaker so it was very important to take the necessary precautions.

Moffitt said that people can also pledge a pizza for those who are disabled and unable to leave their homes. It takes about two hours to heat up the pizza oven so she’s trying to narrow in on the busiest day of the week to deliver pizzas.

She said that she may be able to reopen to the public in the next week or so, but for now, her efforts are all about the seniors.

“I’ve met so many neat people... I’ve heard some amazing stories from these people,” Moffitt said. “I’ve made a lot of new friends.”

Important note:

Many people who sought to donate pizza to seniors mistakenly called Knik Pizza in downtown Wasilla. Those are two completely different companies.
