MAT-SU — A napping 6-year-old gave her mother a momentary panic at a bus stop Tuesday after school.
Robin Petrovich drove down to meet the kindergartner as she came home from Swanson Elementary School. The bus doors opened, the kids came off, then the bus drove away. Her daughter was not there.
Petrovich asked the other students if her daughter made it on the bus. They said yes, and Petrovich drove home to get her two younger children.
She knew the route the bus took, so she tracked it down. She called the school, the school called the bus barn and the bus barn radioed the driver.
The daughter, who slept through her stop, was let off at the next chance for her mother to pick her up.
Petrovich, relieved the incident ended so well, said she would hope drivers would pay more attention to who gets on and off their buses.
“For the younger kiddos, they need to make sure they get off at the proper stop and make sure the parents are there,” Petrovich said.
