WASILLA — A counselor working at Salvation Army King’s Lake Camp died Monday evening following a late-night swim.
Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Beth Ipsen said they were called around 10:30 p.m., July 22 to respond to a report of a male on the ground at the summer camp for kids off Lakeview Drive in Wasilla.
The man was identified as a camp counselor, Jorge Castaneda, 32, of Moreno Valley, Calif., Ipsen said.
Medics declared him deceased at the scene and his body was transported to the state of Alaska Medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine cause of death. No foul play is suspected, troopers said.
Troopers said Castaneda was struggling in the water, but reached shore, where he collapsed and died.
