WASILLA — The Alaska Avalanche added two players to its roster this past week after trading defenseman Braden Kinnebrew to the Wichita Falls Wildcats.
In return, the Avs received forward Thomas Erlacher and defensemen Tyler Krueger.
Coach Dave Boitz said that both players coming over in the trade have great potential. Erlacher, listed at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, some needed size to the Avs roster.
“Erlacher is a big, strong kid who can put up points,” Boitz said.
Krueger, at 6-foot and 180, also brings some size and youth, the coach siad. “(Krueger) is young and talented defenseman. He’s got great skill and he’s a great skater.”
Boitz said trading Kinnebrew, who skated for South Anchorage High School, needed to be done.
“Braden just wasn’t skating up to his potential,” Boitz said.
While the trade happened last week, both of the Avs’ new players were not in town for the weekend series against first-place Fairbanks.
Boitz said that he expects both players to join the team Jan. 2 for the 2009 opening home series against the Kenai River Brown Bears.
