Kiwanis says thanks

To the editor:

Kiwanis Club of Palmer’s fund-raising project “Moose Poop Palooza” was a success. We thank everyone who bought tickets to help finance our community-service efforts.

We appreciate cooperation from Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce, Palmer Police Department and the Palmer Fire Department. Our favorite firefighter climbed a five-story ladder to drop all 789 numbered “nuggets” on the target below. David Driscoll, Iraq war veteran, was the official who measured from target center outward to identify the 20 lucky winners. He was assisted by Steve Brown, Kiwanis president, and a circle of observers.

The moose “nugget” falling at dead center of the target was co-owned by Jake White and Randee Haugom. They collected and split the $3,000 grand prize at the Kiwanis noon meeting Tuesday at Peking Gardens. Dustin Clark collected the $400 second-place check, and $20 checks were mailed to all remaining winners.

Kiwanis is a community service club with 60 years of action in Palmer. Now in its fourth year is the club’s project to provide student dictionaries to each third-grade student in our school district. We annually give recognition to middle-school graduates who show outstanding citizenship, and sponsor Key Clubs at Palmer and Colony high schools. Kiwanis also supports a Little League team, buys hot dogs for the library summer picnic and donates funds for PHS “grad night,” to name a few projects.

On Aug. 6, our Kiwanis Club will host a Golf As You Like It tournament, our second (and last) fund-raising event of the year. Again, fun and prizes for all who play. Kiwanis club of Palmer welcomes inquiries and new members.

June Tull,

Palmer
