Knight girls second at SOHI pentathlon

SOLDOTNA -- The Colony Knights, Palmer Moose and Wasilla Warrior swim teams competed in the annual Soldotna Pentathlon last week.

Colony amassed 44 points to claim second place in the girls event.

Soldotna edged Colony by four points to take first place.

The Knights had three swimmers in the top 10. Sarah Brettrager had a combined time of 3 minutes, 1.28 seconds to take third. Elise Long placed fourth with a total time of 3:03.01.

Nancy Long finished 10th with a time of 3:15.40 for the Knights.

The Wasilla boys scored a fourth-place finish in the teams standings.

The Warriors were led by a sixth-place effort from sophomore Ben Harris.

Harris recorded a total time of 2:54.53.

The Colony boys, sixth in the team standings, were led by Brenden Bruns.

Bruns finished 15th with a time of 3:08.15.

Joe Williams was the top Palmer boy in the event, finishing 33rd. Katlyn Griese led the Moose girls with a 37th-place finish.

The Wasilla girls were led by Melissa Windell, who finished 21st.

The final time of each participant in the pentathlon is a combined score of the athletes' top time in the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, fly and individual medley. The top 16 finishers score team points.

Knights, Moose split

Colony and Palmer split in a double dual at Soldotna High School last week.

The Moose boys defeated the Knights 43-40 and the Colony girls downed Palmer 73-25.

To round out the series of dual meets, Soldotna swept both Palmer and Colony.

Warriors win at Skyview

Wasilla registered 118 points to defeat Kodiak and Skyview in a tri-meet at Skyview High School last week.

Katie Shadrach led the Warriors with a pair of wins. The sophomore won both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events during the tri-meet.

Melissa Windel won the 100-yard freestyle and Allison Willis won the 100-yard breast stroke for the Warriors.

The Wasilla 200-yard freestyle relay team also placed first.

The Wasilla boys placed second in the tri-meet.

Harris led his squad win a pair of wins, placing first in the 100-butterfly and the 100-breast stroke.
