FAIRBANKS - The Colony Knights continue to play perfect volleyball.
With a 3-0 record going into the West Valley Invitational last weekend, the Knights swept the host Wolfpack in the championship match to win the title of the annual tourney.
Colony advanced to the title match of the two-day tourney with an 8-0 record in round-robin play. In the championship the Knights claimed a 2-0 (25-14, 25-13) win.
Kelcy Joynt led the Knights with eight kills, while Hannah Curtis added four. Jordan Pokryfki scored a team-high four aces in the title game.
First-year Colony head coach Amy Carter said consistency was the key to the Knights' success in Fairbanks.
"We had one really phenomenal game, and the rest we were really consistent," Carter said.
Carter said the phenomenal play was in a round-robin win over Monroe Catholic. Going into the tournament, Carter said passing was the weakest part of the Colony game, but passing stood out in the game against Monroe.
Eight teams participated in the tournament, that was broken into two pools. Colony, West Valley, Delta Junction and Monroe made up one pool, while Hutchinson, Eielson, Lathrop and North Pole were in the other.
"We didn't play any teams that we just killed," Carter said. "West Valley's very good, and a lot of the other teams are young and will get better as the season progresses."
Colony (3-0 overall, and 2-0 in Northern Lights Conference play) hosts region rival Palmer tonight at 6:30 at CHS.
