Knight squads finish second in tourneys

The Colony boys finished second in the Earth Wireless Holiday Hoopfest in Redmond, Ore. this week.

The Knights suffered a 49-40 loss Mazama High School (Ore.) in the championship game of the annual tourney. Mazama came into the tournament as the third-ranked team in Oregon's 3A Division. Mazama was the division's second- ranked team in the preseason poll.

Clay Hotchkiss and Jason Christensen each put in nine points to lead the Knights in the loss.

"We played pretty good defense, but unfortunately we had a hard time hitting the shots," Colony head coach Phil Engebretsen said.

Colony shot just 12-44 in the championship game.

Colony played three games in the 16-team tourney. The Knights opened with a 51-40 win over LaGrande High School. Justin Coffman led the Knights with 11 points.

In the semifinals, Colony edged LaSalle High School 44-41. Hotchkiss scored a team-high 13 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers.

According to Engebretsen, LaSalle was the toughest opponent the Knights faced. LaSalle took the lead in the third quarter, but Colony went on a 16-2 run in the fourth quarter to come back and seal the victory.

"We played pretty good defensively," Engebretsen added. "Clay Hotchkiss and Jason Christensen had good tournaments."

Hotchkiss represented Colony on the all-tournament team.

The Colony girls placed second in the Ayala Best of the West Tournament in Ganesha, Calif. this week.

The Knights suffered a 55-44 loss to harvard Westview in the championship final. Sienna Locke led the Knights with 15 points.

Colony finished 4-1 in the tournament and improved to 4-2 overall.

The Knights notched a 64-53 win over the host school, Ganesha, in the semifinals. Kristina Klapperich scored 23 points to lead the Knights.
