Knights battle, but Bears sweep Colony girls

KODIAK — The Colony Knights may have given Kodiak its toughest challenge of the season, but the Bears kept their season record perfect.

Kodiak survived a late Colony push to score a 49-40 win over the Knights in Kodiak Tuesday. Colony cut the Kodiak lead to five points twice within the final three minutes of play, but Kodiak capped the game with a 4-0 run to help the Bears improve to 2-0 overall and 8-0 in Northern Lights Conference play.

Colony (9-11, 3-4) scored 16 of its 40 points in the fourth quarter. Sarah Brumbaugh went to the basket, drew the foul and hit the free-throw to complete the three-point play to cut Kodiak’s lead to 42-37 with just about three minutes left. Kodiak quickly pushed its lead back to eight just moments later. On Colony’s next possession, Jerica Nelson completed a three-point play to give Kodiak the 44-37 advantage.

With less than two minutes left, Colony hit a bucket to bring the Knights within five. But once again, Kodiak was able to respond and pushed its lead back to seven.

Faith Farris and Izzy Tweed combined for five three-pointers in the Colony loss. Farris hit a pair of shots from behind the arc, and led Colony with a game-high 19. Tweed hit a trio of treys and added 11 points.
