ANCHORAGE — The Colony Knights are 0-2 against rival Palmer in a pair of Northern Lights Conference matches this season. But there was a different outcome during the final day of the Dimond/Service Tournament.
Colony swept Palmer 2-0 (25-15, 26-24) in a best-of-3 match during consolation action of the tournament’s Silver Bracket Saturday in Anchorage. With wins over Palmer and Thunder Mountain, Colony finished first in the consolation side of the Silver Bracket.
Both Colony and Palmer finished 4-4 in pool play Friday, and were grouped with six other squads in the eight-team Silver Bracket. The Knights opened Silver Bracket play with a 2-1 loss to NLC rival Soldotna. Palmer was pushed into the consolation side of the Silver Bracket with a 2-0 loss to Mt. Edgecumbe.
Soldotna beat Mt. Edgecumbe 2-0 to win the Silver Bracket.
West Valley 3, Colony 2
PALMER — Not much separated the Colony Knights at the West Valley Wolfpack Thursday night. But West Valley was able to leave Colony High School with a 3-2 (28-26, 13-25, 26-28, 25-22, 18-16).
Other than Colony’s decisive 25-13 win in Game 3, no other set was decided by more than three points.
Mackenzie Everett led the Knights with 32 assists and nine digs. Ashley Turcotte recorded a team-high 20 digs, and added seven kills. Sophie Hall led the Knights with 13 kills. She also had four digs, four aces and three blocks.
Courtney Mulkins also had nine digs.
Palmer 3, Lathrop 0
PALMER — Palmer scored a nonconference sweep of Lathrop, beating the Malemutes 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-23) Thursday at Palmer High School.
Ellen Groseclose recorded nine kills, four aces and three blocks for the Moose. Allie McPheters added 19 assists.
