Now that Wasilla does not share a conference, or even a division, with Colony, the Warriors do not see the Knights every season.
But this year, Wasilla had a shot at its old rival. And the Warriors were also looking for their first win of the year.
Despite Wasilla’s two touchdown lead, Colony found a way to spoil it all.
Colony’s Kadarious Pope scored from 3 yards out during a second overtime to help the Division I Knights earn a 27-21 victory over the Division II Warriors Friday night at Colony High School.
Colony improved to 2-1 in 2025, and also won on its home turf for the first time since 2023.
The Knights needed a pair of second-half touchdowns and two more during the overtime frames to find the win column.
Quarterback Marley Fakatoumafi scored on a 4-yard run in the third to cut Wasilla’s lead to 14-7. In the fourth, with Colony facing 4th-and-goal at the 1, Keoni Pili pushed into the end zone, and Colony tied the score at 14.
Both Wasilla and Colony scored during the first overtime. Brayden Sparrs used a 4-yard touchdown run to give Wasilla the 21-14 lead, but Colony answered right back with Fakatoumafi’s 7-yard touchdown pass to Hudson Broeder.
Zorn Allen gave Wasilla an early lead with a 9-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter. Conner Zundel had a 7-yard touchdown run in the second for Wasilla
Wasilla dropped to 0-3 overall.
Palmer also took a break from Division II play, for a game with a DI program. The Moose cruised to a 41-20 victory over Juneau-Douglas Saturday at Palmer High.
Corbin Gerkin sparked Palmer with an 83-yard return for a score on the opening kickoff. Gerkin also had a pair of touchdown runs in the second half. Quarterback Nolan Garner connected with receiver Reed Craner on two touchdown passes.
Ezra Zimmerman also had a long touchdown run.
Palmer improved to 2-1.
In other action, Redington beat Houston 40-20.
