WASILLA — The team title came down to a pair of Valley wrestling powers, and Colony walked away with the hardware.
Colony beat Wasilla 43-30 in the championship dual to win the West Anchorage Classic Saturday at West. Aidan Ehmann (152 pounds), Cooper Roberts (215), Evan Holmes (103) and Elijah Larsen (112) scored wins by pin for Colony. Rett Gallagher (135), Landon Erwin (189) and Jared Hopkins (140) were also victorious against the Warriors.
Wasilla’s Sterling Uhlenhake (145), Bradley Keeney (160), Colton Lindquist (171), Jeffrey Palmer (285), Alexander Logsdon (125) and Tyler Foss (130) earned wins.
Colony finished 4-0 in the tourney, also beating Dimond (78-5), Chugiak (72-9) and Eagle River (63-15). The Warriors were 3-1, beating Bartlett (66-12), Service (54-18), and East Anchorage (59-24).
Huskies finish 2nd in Valdez
The Redington Huskies finished as the runner-up at the Throwdown in Snow Town in Valdez.
The Huskies finished with five individual champs. One of those wins came in an all-Redington final. Charles Severance beat teammate Aaron Thomas in the 135-pound final. Justin Dick (103), Kobe Myers (135) and Gavin Metcalf (140) also finished first for Redington, and Hope Walker finished first at 130 in the girls class for Redington.
James Paris (125) and Boston Postishek (130) advanced to the finals and placed second for the Huskies.
Mason House led Houston with a win at 171. Wasilla’s Kayjai Schoneman finished first at 285 to lead the Warriors. Abigail Burke was first at 145 for the Wasilla girls.
The Warriors finished third in the team standings, and Houston was fifth.
