WASILLA -- The Colony Knights scored four goals in the second period en route to a 9-5 victory over Valley rival Wasilla in the final regular season contest for both schools.
With the win, Colony earned the third seed in this weekend's Region III hockey tournament.
Colony had been tied with Valley rival Palmer for third place in the region. The win helped break the tie and earned Colony a first round contest with Skyview in the region tournament, rather than a rematch with Wasilla.
Palmer matched up against the Warriors.
The Knights held a 3-2 lead before their offensive outburst in the second
period.
Chris Crosta scored for Colony six minutes into the second period to give Colony a 4-2 edge. The Knights scored three goals in the final 2:30 of the period to leap to the giant lead.
Brad Peltz started the scoring spree and Crosta added his second goal of the game 22 seconds later. Ryan Pauling scored with 41 seconds left in the second to give Colony a 7-2 lead.
Shane Colgrove, Eric Zehnder and Jordan Troisi each scored in the third period for Wasilla in the Warrior comeback attempt.
Dean Schultz and Chris Arentz scored in the third for the Knights to help seal the win.
Crosta tallied two goals and two assists to lead the Knights.
Colgrove led Wasilla with a pair of goals.
Each team used a pair of goalies in the game.
Alan Markus and Nolan Rein each saw action for Colony and Nathan Banbury and Dean Papadora split the net duties for Wasilla.
Rein stopped 19 shots and Markus recorded 12 saves for Colony.
Banbury and Papadora combined for 21 saves.
