Knights dominant at duals championships

ANCHORAGE — The Colony Knights won the Alaska State Duals Championships in dominant fashion at South Anchorage HIgh School on Saturday.

The three-time defending state champions used a 57-14 win over Service in the final dual to claim the crown.

Noah Roetman (103), Sam Loggins (130), Kenny Boykin (171), Eric Fan (215) and Renn Wright (285) each pinned their Service opponent.

Wasilla High School finished fifth in the duals championships with a 53-30 win over Chugiak. Derek Johnsen scored a win by technical fall at 140 to lead the Warriors.

Colony moved into the final match by finishing first in its pool on Friday and Saturday morning. On Saturday morning, Colony beat Wasilla 46-21 and South Anchorage 53-22.

Wasilla fell to South 38-33 in the pool.

On Friday, Colony topped the 70-point mark in both of its duals.

The Knights beat Bartlett 78-4 and the Renegades, a team comprised of athletes from random teams, 74-17.

Wasilla beat Dimond 58-27 and Bethel 44-30 on Friday.

Moose, Hawks compete in Kodiak

KODIAK — A trio of Palmer grapplers won their respective weight classes during the Robin Hervey Invitational at Kodiak High School on Saturday.

Luke Heun (119), Jered Kemp (130) and Cole Frohling (215) all finished first in their bracket for the Moose.

Heun and Frohling each pinned their opponent, and Kemp earned a 13-3 major decision over Kodiak’s Brandon Canete during the final round.

Aaron Reese finished first at 152 for Houston.
