Knights earn trip to state baseball tourney

SOLDOTNA — Colony bounced back from a loss with a big effort. Now the Knights are headed to the state tournament in Sitka.

Colony, which suffered a loss to rival Wasilla in the Southcentral Conference title game Friday night, earned the conference’s final bid to the state tournament with an 15-10 win over Kodiak Saturday in Soldotna.

Colony scored 11 times in the sixth inning to help score another trip to the state tournament. The Knights won the Southcentral last year.

Dalton McHugill led the Knights at the plate, finishing 4 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Matt Palmer added two hits, a run and an RBI. Six Knights finished with at least a hit.

Wasilla, with its win over Colony in the region title game, also earned an automatic bid to the state tourney.
