WASILLA — The Colony Knights scored seven unanswered goals to grab a 7-3 nonconference win over the Houston Hawks Tuesday at the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla
Houston led 3-0 early, scoring twice in the first two minutes of play, but the Knights jumped back into the game with two goals late in the first.
Morgan McJimsey, one of a pair of Knights to score twice in the win, grabbed a power-play goal with 3:45 left in the first. McJimsey got the puck at the point, stepped up between the circles and snapped a wrister into the Houston net.
Logan Sanders cut Houston’s lead to 3-2, firing a shot from the point with 1:15 left. The puck was deflected back to the point by a Trevor Naylor shot.
McJimsey scored again in the second to tie the game at 3. The defenseman took the puck in his own zone and skated the length of the ice before scoring.
Later in the period, with the Knights skating shorthanded, Boyer picked up the puck in the Colony defensive zone, skated by the Houston defense, and used a quick move to lift the puck over the shoulder of Houston goalie Aaron Allred.
Boyer and Lincoln Mattson added third-period power-play goals for the Knights. Anthony Kolendo also scored in the third.
Houston needed only 50 seconds to get on the scoreboard. Jake Wells scored the first of his two goals for the Hawks at the 14:10 mark. Less than a minute after Houston took a 1-0 lead, Zach Lovelace scored on the power play to push the Hawks’ advantage to 2.
Wells scored again at the 7:57 mark.
