Colony went on a run during the second day of the state volleyball tournament, but the Knights fell just short of a chance to play for a spot in the title match.
South Anchorage edged Colony 3-2 (25-17, 27-29, 25-13, 23-25, 15-10) in an elimination match during the ASAA/First National Bank 4A State Volleyball Championships Nov. 12 at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.
Colony finished fourth overall in the tourney. South battled back through the backside of the bracket of the double-elimination tourney to beat rival Dimond in the state championship match.
Colony opened with a 3-1 (25-17, 26-28, 23-25, 14-25) loss to West Anchorage on the first day of the tourney. The Knights stayed alive with consecutive victories.
Colony beat North Pole 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-18). The Knights followed with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-20) win over Thunder Mountain.
Palmer and Wasilla were also part of the eight-team bracket. Palmer eliminated Wasilla with a 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 15-13) win over the Warriors.
South eliminated Palmer with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-10) win over the Moose.
