Knights finish second in state duals championships

ANCHORAGE — Despite a late push by the Knights, South Anchorage managed to edge Colony 41-36 during the final round to win the 2013 Alaska 4A State Duals Championships at South Anchorage High School Saturday.

Colony won the final five matches of the dual, but was left five points shy of South. The Knights also finished second at the duals championships last year.

South built a 39-6 lead early in the dual, sweeping the 106-pound class through the 145-pound class. Kody Nash sparked the Colony rally with a pin at 170. Logan Conway (182), Riley Fredrickson (195) and Mitchell Daigle (285) also pinned opponents.

Colony advanced to the final with a 41-27 win over rival Wasilla during the semifinals. Wasilla finished third in the championship bracket with a 56-14 win over Kodiak.

The duals championships features a 16-team bracket, and is now considered one of the top events during the regular season.
