PALMER — Colony’s historic win over Juneau-Douglas Friday caused a shake-up in the latest Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network Prep Football Poll.
The Knights (2-2) moved on to the latest large-schools list, released Monday, and are ranked fifth after their 26-7 win over the Crimson Bears (3-1). Juneau, ranked second in the previous poll, was knocked out of the top-5 after suffering its first ever loss to Colony.
West Anchorage (4-0) is back on top of the large-schools poll after its 20-15 win over South Anchorage. Following its win over East Anchorage, Service (3-1) jumps into the No. 2 position. Chugiak (3-1) moves up one spot to third after edging Dimond. Bartlett (3-1) also moves a spot ahead and is fifth after pounding Eagle River.
The large-schools list sets up a No. 2 versus No. 3 matchup this weekend when Service faces Chugiak.
Soldotna (4-0) is the top team on the small-schools list once again. The Stars beat Houston 70-0 last Saturday.
Thunder Mountain, one of only three undefeated teams left in the state, is now ranked second. The first-year varsity program that hails from the Juneau area blanked Ketchikan last week.
Eielson (3-1) jumps to third after a 40-7 win over Monroe Catholic. Kenai Central (2-2) fell to fourth after a 3-32 nonconference loss to Palmer. Skyview, a 32-8 winner over Homer, stays at No. 5. Fifth-ranked Skyview will play Soldotna this weekend to highlight the small-schools slate.
