ANCHORAGE — Greta Jenkins was the top Valley skier during the first day of the ASAA/First National Bank State Nordic Skiing Championships at Kincaid Park in Anchorage Thursday.
Jenkins used a 27th-place finish to help Colony move into seventh in the girls’ team standings. Jenkins finished the 5-kilometer classic race in 19 minutes and 43 seconds.
Anne Woodings led the Palmer Moose with a time of 21:17 in the classic. Teammate Kiersten Johnson was only about four seconds off Woodings’ pace.
Danika Ingersoll led Wasilla with a time of 22:42. Wasilla’s Riley Burroughs followed Ingersoll into the finish chute with a time of 22:49.
Colony also had the top Valley skier in the boys race. Brandon Schafer placed 31st to lead the Knights. He finished with a time of 24:06.
Tobin Sworts led the Moose with a mark of 25:16, and Colton Pulver led Wasilla, finishing at 26:58.
Action continues with the mass start freestyle technique races. The girls’ 7.5-K is at 11 a.m. and the boys’ 10-K starts at noon.
The mixed technique relays are slated for Saturday, with the girls at 11 a.m. and boys at 12:30 p.m.
