The weekend was not kind to a pair of local football squads.
Colony and Palmer each dropped tough non-conference contests.
Colony (1-2) suffered a 27-6 loss to the defending 3A state champion Kenai Kardinals.
The Kards, known for their success in the ground game, burned Colony three times through the air.
Kenai quarterback Cole Chappell tossed three touchdowns in the win.
Chappell, who was 5 for 8 with 60 yards passing, had a pair of seven yard scoring strikes and a 16-yard touchdown pass.
The Kards amassed 288 yards on the ground. Dakota Craig led the squad with 135 and Chappell added 97.
The Knights gained just 83 yards on the ground and 68 yards in the air.
Despite having a 70-yard touchdown run that accounted for the Knights' only score, quarterback Rhett Magner had just 30 yards total rushing.
Magner hit 9 of 18 passes for 68 yards. Six of Magners' passes were caught by Justin Schwartzbauer.
Palmer (1-2) is now 0-2 against teams outside of the Railbelt Conference after dropping a 17-0 decision to Juneau-Douglas High School in Juenau.
Mark Schilling threw a pair of touchdown passes in the second half to seal the win.
The Moose were shutout after scoring 31 points last week.
The potent Palmer ground attack, which gained 652 yards in the first two weeks of the season, gained just 194.
Palmer tailback Allen Franklin and wing back Mike Weber each failed to break 100 yards for the first time this season.
Weber led the squad with 79 yards, while Franklin added 67.
Brian Felix paced the Bears with 110 yards on the ground.
