PALMER — The Colony Knights enjoyed a big start to their 2016 season.
Colony knocked off defending Northern Lights Conference champion Kodiak on consecutive days at Colony High School.
Friday, Colony used Aleah Yundt’s nine aces to sweep Kodiak 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-19). Mikara Klawitter collected 10 kills and three digs in the win. Shiann Bontrager added five kills, 23 assists, seven digs and a block. Eve Stephens chipped in four kills and two blocks.
Colony followed with another sweep Saturday afternoon, beating the Bears 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-22). Bontrager added a half-dozen kills to her 30 assists. Stephens had 11 kills. Lily Birch finished with seven kills and 10 digs.
Moose get by Wolfpack
The Palmer Moose opened their season with a nonconference victory over West Valley Thursday at Palmer High School.
The Moose edged the Wolfpack 3-2 (18-25, 25-7, 25-23, 14-25, 15-13).
Palmer, along with Wasilla, competed in the Chugiak Invitational Friday and Saturday at Chugiak High. Results were not available prior to press time.
