PALMER — The Colony Knights may have had trouble finding a spot in the back of the net Friday, buy there were no issues on Saturday.
A night after scoring a slim 1-0 win over Kenai, despite putting 17 shots on net, Colony peppered Seward with 37 shots during a 10-0 victory over the Seahawks.
“We played great team ball,” Colony head coach Lorie Miner said of the win over the Seahawks. “Ten o’clock in the morning, we were awake; we hit every connecting pass you could think of.”
Ali Baker, Brystil Baker, Peyton Johnstone and Rebecca Mackey each scored twice for the Knights. Ariana Saxon, Savannah Nash and Bailey Jenski also scored for Colony.
Johnstone accounted for the lone goal Friday, converting a penalty kick during the 37th minute of a 1-0 win over Kenai.
“We just weren’t connecting,” Miner said. “We weren’t in our game, in our rhythm.”
Kenai head coach Dan Verkulien said his team played fairly well, considering it was Kenai’s first game of the season.
“I think Colony played a better first half. It looked like we had bus legs. Our first time out on the field, we were kind of getting used to that,” Verkulien said. “The second half (Friday) I think we picked it up a bit. It was a good game. Colony has a lot of aggressive, athletic players.”
