ANCHORAGE — The Colony Knights powered through a tough bracket to win the team title of the Alaska 4A Dual Meet Championships at South Anchorage High School last weekend.
The Knights knocked off the last two programs to win a 4A state championship en route to the title of the tournament.
Colony beat defending state champion Wasilla 45-30 in the championship bracket semifinals. The Knights topped South Anchorage, the 2013 champs, 48-28 in the finals.
Kody Nash sparked the Knights with a quick pin to start the championship dual. Nash needed only 30 seconds to beat South’s Sam Cook in the 195-pound match. Nash posted one of Colony’s six pins in the dual. Half those pins came within the first minute of the match. Robert Haan pinned Trevor Kim in 52 seconds in the 160-pound match. Robert Zimmerman needed only 23 seconds to pink Keon Bailey at 98 pounds.
Another came just after the 1-minute mark. Dawson Nash pinned Gabe McSharry in 1:03 in the 170-pound match.
The Knights collected five pins during the semifinal dual win over the Warriors. Zach Doan (220), Mitchell Daigle (285), Spencer Adams (152), Haan (160) and Dawson Nash (170) each pinned their opponents against Wasilla.
Micah Mathis (98) and Dillon Simpson (113) recorded pins for Wasilla.
Wasilla finished third in the bracket with a 42-36 win over Service.
