Knights place third in state softball tourney

The Colony Knights finished the season as one of the top three Division I softball seasons in Alaska.

Colony placed third in the ASAA/First National Bank State Softball Championships at Cartee Fields in Anchorage.

The third-place finish marks the best in school history in the state tournament. It’s also the fifth straight year the Knights placed in the top five. The Knights were fourth in 2023, and fifth in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Colony finished 3-2 overall in the three-day tournament in Anchorage. South Anchorage, which went on to capture the 2025 state title, beat the Knights 8-2 in the semifinals Friday afternoon. Kaidence Browning scored both runs for Colony.

Chugiak eliminated Colony and moved into the championship game with a 16-4 victory over the Knights later Saturday. Browning drove in three and scored a run.

Colony advanced to the semifinals with a 15-0 victory over Railbelt rival Juneau-Douglas Friday. Eleven of Colony’s 15 runs came in the third. Alexis Congdon and Morgan Gallagher had three RBI each. Five different Knights scored two runs. Browning pitched the three-inning shutout, with three strikeouts.

The Knights open their tourney with a 15-7 victory over East Anchorage 15-7 in pool play Thursday. Browning was 3 for 3, with three RBI and four runs scored. Alesha Crowther also drove in three runs. Meghan Schoon added two hits, two runs and two RBI.

Colony followed with a 4-2 win over Chugiak, thanks to Browning’s two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. Browning also pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and two earned runs while fanning six.
