Just about a week into the prep hockey season, Colony is the lone undefeated team in the Mat-Su Valley.

The Knights used four power play goals to score a 7-0 win over rival Palmer Wednesday at the Menard Arena in Wasilla. Colony improved to 3-0-0 overall, while Palmer (2-1-0) suffered its first loss of the young season.

Carson McLaughlin, Peyton VanBuskirk, Kaden Lynch and Aidan Finch each scored with the man advantage for the Knights. Finch led Colony with a four-point night, adding an assist to his hat trick. Cutter Jones also scored for Colony. Jacob Ross finished with a pair of assists.

Colony jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first and also scored three times in the third. The Knights outshot Palmer 48-16 in the win. Kaylee Norman used 16 saves to earn her second shutout of the season. Palmer’s Jackson Heard stopped 41 shots in the loss.

Colony has now scored wins over its three Valley rivals during the first week of the season. The Knights have outscored their opponents by a combined 24-2 during those three games. Colony opened the season last week with a 6-0 win over Wasilla and followed that with an 11-2 victory over Houston.

Palmer had back-to-back wins over Houston and Wasilla before falling to the Knights.

The four Valley prep hockey teams are currently restricted to intradistrict competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Valley varsity teams have games scheduled through Feb. 12.

Wasilla picked up its first win of the season Wednesday, posting a 3-1 win over Houston at the Big Lake Recreation Center.

Evan Koivunen, Branson Starheim and Raeley Carney each scored for Wasilla. Anfim Konev tallied Houston’s lone goal early in the third period.

Houston outshot Wasilla 26-21 in the loss. Jakob Barcelona earned the win in the Warriors net with 25 saves. Kevin Lewis stopped 18 shots for Houston.

The four Valley teams return to action Friday. Colony hosts Wasilla at 4 p.m. at the Menard. Houston plays Palmer at 7 p.m. at the MTA Events Center in Palmer.
