ANCHORAGE — The Colony Knights put together consecutive wins to place fourth in the Gold Bracket of the Lady Lynx Prep Shootout at Dimond High School.

Colony capped its play during the four-day tourney with a 51-40 win over the Chugiak Mustangs in the fourth-place game Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Alyssa Hutchins shot 50 percent from the field and three-point land, and scored 16 points to lead Colony to its third victory in four days. Hutchins was 5-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Junior Kaitlyn Klapperich also shot 50 percent from the field and hit 6-of-7 free throws en route to a 12-point performance. Freshman Mary Klapperich added 11 points and three rebounds.

Colony jumped out to a 12-5 lead during the first eight minutes and never trailed the defending 4A state champions after the first quarter.

Chugiak edged Colony to win the 4A title last season.

Colony moved into the consolation semifinal match with a 56-43 win over Service on Friday.

Kaitlyn Klapperich scored a game-high 19 points during the victory. The junior also pulled down six rebounds.

Hutchins added 11 points in the win. Freshman Allison Leigh led the Knights in the paint with a game-high nine rebounds.

Colony suffered a 51-34 loss to Ketchikan during the first round of the tourney.

Wasilla was forced to settle for fifth in the eight-team bracket after Ketchikan slipped past the Warriors 34-33.

Wasilla held Ketchikan to just 26 percent shooting in the game, but the Kings used a 10-6 second quarter run to earn the slim victory.

Wasilla opened the game with a 6-0 run, and the Warriors had led 17-15 at the half.

Junior Kelsey Cottle scored a team-high 13 points and pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds to lead the Warriors.

Freshman Alexis Imoe hit 3-of-4 shots from behind the arc and scored 11 points.

Senior Carlee Naczi added seven.

Wasilla used a 35-19 win over Lathrop on Thursday to move into the Gold Bracket semifinals, but Juneau-Douglas pushed Wasilla into the third-place match with a 50-36 win on Friday.

The Bears jumped out to a 26-8 lead, and took a 28-12 advantage into the half.

Wasilla was held to only four points during the first quarter.

Cottle led the Warriors with 13 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots during the loss. Fellow junior Celeste Colegrove added 11 points and eight boards.

The Dimond tourney was an eight-team event in the past, but organizers opted to double the invitations to 16. The first day of the event featured eight games worth of round-robin play. The eight winners were inserted into the Gold Bracket, and the eight losing teams were placed in the Maroon Bracket.

Seven of the eight teams that advanced to the 4A state tournament last year were in the field. Defending 3A state champion Anchorage Christian School was also in the event.
