ANCHORAGE — Def-ending state champion Juneau-Douglas powered past a pair of Mat-Su teams to win the Lady Lynx Shootout at Dimond High School over the weekend.

A night after handing Wasilla its first loss of the season, Juneau topped Colony 46-30.

The Bears held Colony scoreless during the first quarter and built a 10-0 lead over the Knights in the title game. Taylor Larson led the Bears with 12 points. Sophomore Mary Klapperich scored 12 for Colony.

Colony moved into the final by knocking off host Dimond 40-37 Friday in the semifinals. Dimond led 26-13 at halftime, and built its lead to as many as 22 points in third quarter. But with stellar play on both ends of the floor, the Knights rallied. Colony scored 27 of its 40 points in the second half and held the Lynx scoreless during the entire eight-minute fourth quarter.

Senior Tess Forstner, who scored all six of her points during Colony’s late 17-point run, sparked the Knights with a bucket with 18 seconds left in the third quarter. Forstner also gave Colony its first lead with another field goal that came with just 42 seconds left in regulation.

Leading 38-37, Pherrari Brumbaugh drained a pair of free throws at the 17-second mark to help preserve the victory.

Senior Kaitlyn Klapperich led the Knights with a game-high 14 points. Wasilla was knocked into the tournament’s third-place game after Juneau-Douglas handed the Warriors their first loss of the year, a 48-45 defeat in the semifinals.

Juneau started the game with a 7-0 run to grab the largest lead that either team had in the game. But the Warriors took the lead late in the first quarter with a 9-2 run.

Juneau led for the entire fourth quarter, but Wasilla was able to cut the Bears’ lead to one twice.

Junior Alyssa Hutchins, who led the Warriors with 14 points, hit a pair of free throws to cut Juneau’s lead to 42-41, but Nani Ostrom hit a shot to push the Bears’ lead back to three points.

Later in the quarter, senior Kelsey Cottle brought the Warriors back within one. But once again, the Bears were able to push the lead back to three points.

Larson scored a game-high 15 for Juneau and Ostrom added 14.

Wasilla dropped its second straight game on Saturday, falling to host Dimond 50-41 in third-place game.

Keiahnna Engel and Sierra Afoa scored 20 points each to lead the Lynx. Kelsey Cottle led the Warriors with 11.
