ANCHORAGE — If the baseball gods promised Colony a combined 27 runs in the first two days prior to the start of the state tournament, the Knights would probably anticipate a trip to the finals. But instead, it proved to be a brutal two-and-out for CHS.
The day following a 12-11 quarterfinal loss to Lathrop, the Knights suffered a 20-16 defeat to Juneau-Douglas during the consolation semifinals Friday at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.
Juneau used 13 runs in the first two innings to survive Colony’s eight-run first, and escaped after Colony’s six-run seventh. The Crimson Bears scored at least five runs in three of their first four innings.
Joe Ryan, Kolten Ketchum, Cooper Smith and Jeremy Allen drove in three runs each for the Knights. Trace Severson scored a game-best four runs. Ketchum, Smith, Zachary Satterly, Alex Manning and Brett Knighten each scored twice in the loss. The Juneau pitching staff issued 15 walks in the game. Manning walked a game-high four times.
