Knights score hoops sweep against Warriors

PALMER — If the Colony Knights aren’t careful, Colony fans are going to starting getting accustomed to seeing free basketball.

For the second time, in just their second home game of the season, Colony played in overtime. Faith Farris was 6 of 10 from the free throw line during the extra period to help the Knights hold on to win a 52-47 girls basketball win over the Wasilla Warriors Tuesday at Colony High.

Farris scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Knights to the win, and help Colony improve to 1-2 in Northern Lights Conference play. The Knights, who tipped off their NLC season with a 56-53 double-overtime home loss to Soldotna last Friday, outscored Colony 12-7 during the overtime period.

Wasilla freshman McKenna Dinkel used a rebound and putback with 11 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 40 and force overtime. The Warriors trailed by as many as 15 points in the first quarter and 13 points in the second, but used a late run in the second quarter and another in the fourth to force overtime.

Jennifer Solano added 18 points for Colony. Izzy Tweed chipped in 12.

Shayla Johnson led Wasilla with 16 points. Amanda Hutchins added 12. Dinkel had nine points and 11 rebounds.

In boys action, Colony beat Wasilla 70-55. Damien Fulp scored 24 points for Colony, and Bailey West added 19.
