Knights score walk-off win in conference title game

After a strong pitching performance on the mound and a walk-off double, the Colony Knights are region champions.

Regan Gordon doubled in the bottom of the seventh to help the Knights earn a 4-3 over West Valley during the Railbelt Conference title game Friday in Palmer.

Kaesen Buzby scored on the Gordon double.

Brayden Parrent pitched a seven-inning complete game for Colony. Parrent scattered four hits and three runs, but only one earned. He also fanned 10.

Parrent also sparked Colony at the plate. He hit a two-run homer in the first to give the Knights a 2-1 lead.

Parrent and Gordon had two RBI each for the Knights. Buzby scored twice.

Colony now looks ahead to the Division I state tournament, which starts Thursday at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage. The Knights open against South Anchorage at 4 p.m.

The Knights also beat Lathrop 15-0 and Wasilla 12-5 in the region tourney. Buzby was 3 for 3, with three RBI and two runs against the Warriors. Parrent had two hits and two runs.

Wasilla finished 0-2 in the tournament. The Warriors also suffered a 7-4 loss to West Valley. Wasilla led the Wolfpack 3-1, but West Valley rallied for five runs in the fifth. Hunter Delcour was 3 for 3 to lead Wasilla at the plate.

The Palmer Moose are headed to the Division II state tournament, which starts Thursday at Wasilla High School.

Palmer clinched its spot in state with a 15-0 win over Kodiak during the final day Southcentral Conference Championships Saturday in Kodiak.

Reed Craner pitched a four-inning no-hit shutout for the Moose, He fanned four and walked six.

Gabriel Wheeler led Palmer at the plate, going 3 for 3 with five RBI and two runs scored. Kinan Greco led the Moose with three runs scored. Greco also drove in two.

Palmer erupted for six runs in the second and five more in the third.

Palmer put together three straight games after suffering a 4-0 loss to Kodiak in the first round. The Moose also beat Valley rivals Redington 7-2 and Houston 12-2.

Craner drove in two runs and seven different Palmer players scored a run.

Palmer used an eight-run third inning to get past Houston. Craner drove in four runs. Greco scored three times.

Houston finished 1-2 in the tournament. The Hawks opened with an 8-5 win over Homer in the first round. Carter Seime led Houston with two hits, two runs and an RBI. Max Taylor added two hits, two RBI and a run.

Redington finished 0-2.

Soldotna edged Kenai 2-1 to win the conference title.
