Knights settle for 7th

ANCHORAGE — Colony’s brutal road through the Alaska Prep Shootout finally ended in victory.

After falling to the 3A defending state champion and a top-5 ranked 4A team on back-to-back days, Colony rebounded to grab a 57-47 win over Ketchikan in the tournament’s seventh-place game.

Senior Damien Fulp scored a game-high 18 points for the Knights. Fulp drained a pair of threes, and finished 6 of 10 from the field. He also collected four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Bailey West added 14 points in the win. Mike Haire chipped in seven.

The Knights held an 18-13 lead after the first period, and added to their advantage with a 15-5 second-quarter run.

Colony opened tourney play Thursday with a 69-46 loss to Monroe Catholic, the defending 3A state champion. The game was billed as a battle of No. 1 teams. Monroe is the top-ranked 3A team, according to the latest Alaska Basketball Coaches Association poll. Colony entered the tourney as the No. 1 boys’ 4A team. Fulp scored 13 for the Knights.

The tough tourney for the Knights continued with a 67-56 loss to Thunder Mountain on Friday. The Falcons are ranked No. 5 in 4A, according to AABC. Fulp led the Knights with 21 points against the Falcons.
