Knights sweep borough championships team titles

PALMER — Palmer’s Kiersten Johnson used a time of 25 minutes and 30 seconds to win the girls’ title of the Mat-Su Borough Championships at Government Peak Recreation Area on Saturday.

Johnson finished the 7.5-kilometer course less than a minute ahead of runner-up Greta Jenkins of Colony. With her second-place finish, Jenkins helped the Knights win the girls team title. Tracie Haan (fifth), Tatjana Spaic (sixth), Katya Jenkins (seventh) and ME Meyerhofer (eighth) also posted top 10 finishes for CHS.

Anne Woodings finished third for Palmer. Riley Burroughs led Wasilla with a ninth-place finish.

With three skiers in the top 4, Colony was also able to win on the boys side and sweep the team titles. Lyon Kopsack led Colony with a second-place finish. Darien Sinnett and Nick Harrison finished third and fourth for the Knights.

David Banse led Palmer with an 11th-place finish. Logan Seims was 25th to lead Wasilla.
