Knights sweep Colony Invitational swim meet

Saturday was a big day for the Colony High School swimming and diving programs.

The Knights opened the 2020 prep season alongside rivals Palmer and Wasilla, celebrated senior recognition and swept the team titles and top three individual spots in both the boys and girls classes of the Colony Invitational at the Wasilla Pool.

Colony finished with 986 total points in the combined team standings en route to titles in the boys and girls classes. The Colony boys finished with 462 total points, and Knights girls amassed 524, Colony’s Jasmine Anderson and Jonathan Cowin earned individual gold in the pentathlon style meet, which included the 100-yard individual medley, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle.

Anderson won the girls’ class with a total time of 3 minutes, 4.72 seconds. She was first in both the 100 IM and 50 breaststroke. Cowin was first in the boys class with a total time of 2:42.69. He won four of the meet’s five swimming events.

The Knights swept the top-six girls individual spots. After Anderson, Joscelyn Barrette (second), Jasmine Biederman (third), Lori Houghton (fourth), Josephine Rogness (fifth) and Avery Palenske (sixth) placed for the Knights. Barrette earned three individual wins, scoring first in the 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke 50 freestyle.

Colony swept the top three spots in the boys class. Konnor Kolberg placed second and Karson Kolberg was third. Konnor Kolberg won the boys 50 freestyle.

Stewart Sawyer led Palmer with a fourth-place finish in the boys class. He was one of six Moose in the top 10, joining Connor Lee (fifth), Jaxon Lee (sixth), Kaeson Dalrymple-Sorenson (seventh), Lucas Ruda (eighth) and Tyler Murray (10th).

Kaylin Kloutonwich led the Wasilla Warriors with a seventh-place finish in the girls class. Jaelyn Maddox was eighth for the Wasilla girls. Kyra Pettit led the Palmer girls with a ninth-place finish.

Colony’s Amaretta Settle also placed in the girls top 10.

Colony’s Eli Krozel and Palmer’s Tyler Coffman earned wins in the diving events. Krozel finished with 249.05 in the boys dive Coffman scored 204.40 total points in the girls dive.

Valley teams will hit the water next at the Palmer Invitational Oct. 3 at the Palmer Pool.
