The Colony Knights used a big day in the relay events to help sweep the team titles during their own meet. The Knights boys and girls combined to win five relays during the Colony Invitational Saturday at Colony High School.
On the boys side, the Knights finished first in the 400, 800 and 3,200-meter relay events. Kabari Little, Maverick Rodriguez, Zachary Bendle and Hayden Shafer combined to win the 400 relay with a time of 46.14 seconds. Little, Bendle, Shafer and Daniel Raybon were first in the 800 relay at 1:34.98. Gabriel Black, Theodore Stamoolis, Raven Spangler and Noah James-Tagaban ran for a total time of 8:40.71 in the 3,200 relay.
Denali Anderson-Berghoff, Mary Burnett, Hallie Clark and Annelise Larsen won the 400 relay for the Colony girls with a time of 53.62. Anderson-Berghoff, Burnett, Larsen and Cassidy Knutsen finished first in the 800 relay at 1:51.32.
Colony amassed 254.5 total points in the girls team standings and 252 in the boys.
Ella Hopkins led Colony with a pair of wins in the girls individual events. Hopkins was first in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races. Larsen (200) and Sydney Simpich (800) also won races. Larsen (100), Aubrey Virgin (1,600 and 3,200), Tonya Karpow (shot put), Audrie Fischer (discus) and Sophia Allen (triple jump) placed second. Anderson-Berghoff (100), Knutsen (400), Simpich (1,600), Karpow (discus) and Claudia Butillos (300 hurdles) placed third.
Kenton Phelps swept the boys throwing events to lead Colony, winning both the shot put and discus. London Ramirez (110 hurdles), Maverick Rodriguez (high jump), Haakon Erickson (300 hurdles) and Kenneth Motton (triple jump) also won events. Shafer (200), Kenneth Hopkins (400), Gabriel Black (800) and Andrew Richardson (shot put and discus) placed second. Shafer (100), Black (1,600), Rodriguez (long jump), Torin Erickson (110 hurdles) and Trgve Vang-Thompson (3,200) placed third.
Wasilla finished second overall in the team standings in both classes.
Layla Hays led the Wasilla girls with a sweep in the team standings, and wins in the shot put and discus. Jewel Gardner was first in the 300 hurdles. McKinley Hafen placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump. Josie Schrecengost was second in the 300 hurdles and Claire Bredberg placed third in the shot put.
Gabriel Carey led Wasilla with a victory in the 800. Ayden Stickle (110 hurdles), Bruce Sommerville (high jump) and Richard Rogers (triple jump) were all second. Somerville (triple jump), Brandon Wadleigh (200) and Kaleb Boothby (400) placed third.
Mia Bukala led the Redington girls in the meet. Bukala was first in the 100 and triple jump, second in the 100 hurdles and third in the long jump. Zach Mertel was third in the shot put for the Huskies boys.
Jessie Wentworth won the high jump to lead the Susitna Valley girls. Her teammate, Maura McDaniel, was third. Austin Barnard was first in the 100 and third in the high jump for the Rams boys.
Avery Johnson (high jump) and Madeline Knolmayer (400) placed second for the Palmer girls. Knolmayer (200) and Alder Deal (800) finished third. Kohi Petersen (300 hurdles) was second and Nolan Garner (discus) placed third for the Palmer boys.
