Knights sweep Interior Invite; ready to host CHS meet

PALMER — The Colony Knights will host the 2012 Colony Invitational cross-country meet on the Ed Strabel Trails at CHS on Saturday.

Teams from Unalaska, Kenny Lake, Nenana, Susitna Valley, Anchorage Christian, Colony, Glennallen, Homer, Palmer, Chugiak, Dimond, East Anchorage, West Anchorage and North Pole will participate in the race. The boys’ varsity event is slated for 11 a.m., and the girls’ varsity race will follow at 11:45 a.m.

Colony sweeps Interior Invitational in Fairbanks

FAIBANKS — The Colony Knights swept the Interior Invite in Fairbanks on Saturday.

Brandon Schafer won the boys race to lead the Knights. Schafer finished the course in 17 minutes and 42 seconds to score the individual title. He was also the one of three Knights to lead the pack. Schafer’s teammate Lyon Kopsack (17:43) finished second, while Colony’s Boaz Sessom (18:07) was third. Lane Reed also finished in eighth for Colony, and Kamber Lucas (14th), Dakota Peterson-Thompson (15th) and Trevor Murray (16th) also posted top-16 finishes for the Colony boys.

Senior Audrey Michaelson led the Knights with a runner-up finish in the girls’ race and Colony’s Makenzie Thompson was third.

Bailey Meier (sixth), Tatjana Spaic (ninth) and Jocelyn Kopsack (11th) also finished in the top-11.

The Colony boys won the team titles with 28 points, well ahead of runner-up Lathrop’s 69. The girls finished with 27 points, nearly half that of second-place Lathrop (49).
