PALMER — As the Colony Knights prepared to hit the court for the second half Saturday night, Colony head coach Tom Berg reminded his players about what happened earlier in the week.
Despite leading Wasilla by double-digits at halftime on Tuesday, the Warriors used a big third quarter to grab a win at Colony High. Saturday night, the Knights led Palmer by double-digits at halftime, and Berg didn’t want to see history repeat itself.
Berg’s players responded to the challenge.
Colony held strong during the third quarter, and came away with a 58-36 win over Palmer at Palmer High School.
“I told them against Wasilla on Tuesday, the third quarter was bad. I need the third quarter to be better,” Berg said after the win over Palmer.
The Knights used the effort to improve to 9-1 in Northern Lights Conference play.
Robert Sonnenberg scored nine of his game-high 22 points in the third quarter.
“He was terrific, really, really good,” Berg said of Sonnenberg. “He’s a little underrated, a little off the radar. For us, he’s going to be really important for us down the stretch that he does what he does. He’s really tough, he’s able to make layups — he made some big ones tonight — and kind of anchoring the back line for us in terms of rebounding.”
Tucker Looney and Bailey West added 10 points each for the Knights.
Palmer head coach Brandon Blake said Colony’s play on defense was a key to the game.
“Tough game. Credit to their defense. Nothing was easy for us,” Blake said.
Tye Ramoth led the Moose with 15 points. James Blake added seven.
