Knights sweep Redington Invite

The Colony Knights swept the team titles at the Redington Invitational cross-country running meet at Redington Aug. 22.

Sophomore Zac Cheyette won the boys’ race, and was one of three Knights to finish in the boys’ top four. Colony senior Garrett Streit finished as the race runner-up and sophomore Jayden Rice placed fourth for Colony.

The Colony boys finished with 26 total points in the team standings, 10 better than runner-up Palmer. Wasilla finished third.

Colony’s Lydia Bushey finished second in the girls’ race, and was one of four Knights to place in the top five. Shea Alaniva, sophomore Lucy Shea and Abby Novak also placed in the top five for the Knights.

Colony finished with 23 total points, while Palmer was second with 33.

Senior Sophie Wright won the girls’ race for the Moose, with a time of 21:29. Junior Mykennan Rinella was sixth for Palmer.

Fischer Adams led the Palmer boys with a third-place finish, and teammate Noble Gurney placed fifth. Landon Hayes placed seventh to lead the Wasilla boys. Samuel Stapley placed 17th to lead Houston. Dawson Cowell led Redington with a 22nd-place finish.

Kallie Mears led Wasilla with an 11th-place finish.

Local prep cross-country running teams are competing with only teams from the Mat-Su Borough School districts this fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the mitigation plans set by district officials.

Colony will host the Colony Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m. at Colony High.
