The Colony Knights ran away with both team titles during the Regions III Championships cross-country running meet in Soldotna.
The Colony boys finished first in the standings with a meet-low 19 total points, well ahead of runner-up Kodiak’s 61. The Colony girls had 26 total points, a dozen better than second-place Soldotna.
Colony senior Matthew Rongitsch earned his first Region III title, winning the boys race with a time of 15 minutes, 56 seconds. Rongitsch was the first of three Knights to sweep the top three and among five in the top eight. Zac Cheyette was the runner-up at 16:31 and teammate Tobias Buchanan placed third at 16:44. Jayden Rice (fifth) and Coby Marvin (eighth) also finished in the top 10.
Sophomore Ella Hopkins led the Colony girls’ championship push with a runner-up finish and time of 20:03. Teammate Morgan Ainsworth followed in third at 20:27. Colony’s Stella Rose (fifth), Shea Alanvia (eighth) and Lucy Shea (10th) also placed in the top 10.
Fischer Adams led Palmer in the boys race with a fourth-place finish. Wasilla’s Aceton Edgerton led Wasilla with a sixth-place finish in the boys race.
Kinley Bruno was seventh to lead the Wasilla girls. Palmer’s Alder Deal was 11th in the girls race.
Mya Campbell led Redington with a fourth-place finish in the Region III Division II girls race.
