PALMER — Junior Peyton Johnstone scored a pair of second-half goals to help lead the Colony Knights to a 3-1 girls soccer win over Palmer at Machetanz Field at Palmer High Wednesday evening.
Johnstone, just outside of the box on the left side of the field, ripped a shot high into the far side of the goal during the 57th minute to break a 1-1 tie. Johnstone scored again five minutes later to extend Colony’s lead.
Sahara Iverson gave Colony its first lead of the match, scoring nine minutes into regulation. Kaylee Mahler earned the assist on the play. Beth McCullough earned the victory in the Knights net.
Kiana Till scored Palmer’s lone goal of the game. Till found the back of the net during the 36th minute to tie the score at 1.
In boys’ action, Ben Sande notched the hat trick and Cade Johnstone scored a pair of goals to lead the Knights to a 5-0 win over the Moose at Palmer High.
Johnstone opened the scoring, posting a goal with a header off a corner kick during the ninth minute. About three minutes later, Johnstone sent a shot from about 18 yards out into the corner of the net.
Sande scored all three of his goals during the first 12 minutes of the second half.
Jake Forstner collected three assists in the victory. Goalkeeper Zach Zmuda had five stops for the Knights in the win.
