It started as a battle between a pair of Northern Lights Conference rivals and turned into a three-point contest.
Colony and Soldotna combined for 26 three-pointers during the Knights 72-48 boys basketball win over the Stars Thursday night at Colony High School,
Colony’s Jeremiah Hersrud hit seven threes in the win and scored a game-high 27 points. The senior hit a pair of threes in each of the first three quarters, and scored 10 of Colony’s 24 first-quarter points. Jace Underwood added six three-pointers, scoring all 18 of his points from beyond the arc. Blake Dinkel, Kash Luce and Evan Gatton also hit a three-pointer in the win.
Jakob Brown led SoHi with four three-pointers and a team-high 12 points. Soldotna’s Nate Johnson and Ethan Sewell added 11 each.
Colony jumped to a 24-6 lead early, and closed the game with a 20-point fourth quarter.
The Colony girls used a big second half to get past Soldotna 39-26. The Knights outscored Soldotna 19-8 during the final two quarters.
Tori Schwantes led Colony with 15.
The Houston Hawks scored a 73-42 win over Delta in Delta Junction Thursday night.
Four Hawks scored in double digits. Hayden Howard and Cole Taylor scored 16 points each. Braden Cork and Cody Wyrick finished with 10 points each. Taylor and Cork both hit a trio of three-pointers.
