Knights sweep team standings at Homer Invite track and field meet

The Colony Knights swept the team titles during the Homer Invitational track and field meet April 18 in Homer.

The Colony girls finished with 171.5 total points in the team standings, and the boys had 185. Soldotna was the runner-up in both classes.

Five athletes notched first-place finishes for the Colony girls. Ella Hopkins won the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 25 seconds. Annelise Larsen was first in the 400 with a mark of 1:00.60. Aubrey Virgin placed first in the 3,200 at 12:06.17. Tonya Karpow used a throw of 32 feet, 2 inches to win the shot put. Halie Sandstrom was also first in the triple jump with a mark of 31-11.5.

Larsen (200), Sandstrom (high jump) Denali Anderson-Berghoff (100) and Sydney Simpich (800 and 1,600) placed second. Audrie Fischer was third in the discus.

Trygve Vang-Thompson and Kenton Phelps led the Colony boys with wins. Vang-Thompson was first in the 3,200 at 10:48.56 and Phelps won the discus with a throw of 43-4.5. Andrew Richardson (discus) and Jaylyn Williams (110 hurdles) placed second. Phelps (shot put), Hayden Shafer (100) and Kenneth Hopkins (400) were third.

Wasilla finished fourth in the girls and boys standings.

Hailee Giacobbe was first in the 1,600 with a time of 5:29.64 to lead the Wasilla girls. Mia Christensen was second in the discus.

Barak Wagle was second in the high jump for the Wasilla boys, and Stephen Hafen (800) and Kemuel Rodriguez (300 hurdles) were third.

Palmer was fifth in the boys standings and sixth in the girls class.

Leila Petersen and Avery Johnson both had first-place finishes for the Palmer girls. Petersen won the 200 with a time of 27.46. Johnson had a mark of 4-10 to win the high jump. Petersen was also second on the 400.

Sawyer Wilhelm (200), Nolan Garner (discus) and Corbin Gerkin (high jump) were third for the Palmer boys.

Mia Bukala led Redington with a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles.
