Knights sweep team titles at Colony cross-country running meet

On a wet and windy day, the Colony Knights ran to victory on their home course.

The Knights swept the team titles during the Colony Invitational cross-country running meet Saturday at Colony High School.

Junior Ella Hopkins led the Knights with a runner-up finish in the varsity girls race. Hopkins finished with a time of 20 minutes, 3.75 seconds. Her teammate, Morgan Ainsworth, was third at 20:24. The Knights finished first in the girls team standings with 35 total points, six ahead of Region III rival Soldotna.

Junior Rachel Dnz also placed seventh for CHS.

The Colony boys placed six runners in the top 12, and won the team title with 41 points. Senior Tobias Buchanan led the defending Division I state champions with a fifth-place finish, and time of 17:39. Juniors Coby Marvin (seventh), Chandon Lutz (eighth), Pierce McDonough (10th) and Corbin Wilson (11th) and freshman Raven Spangler (12th) also placed among the top dozen.

Palmer senior Fischer Adams led Valley runners in the boys varsity race with a runner-up finish, and time of 16:39. Palmer senior Tobin Miller was fourth.

The Moose were third in the team standings.

Freshman Blaze Rubeo placed ninth to lead Wasilla.

Freshman Hailee Giacobbe led the Wasilla girls with a fourth-place finish. Freshman Karley Tichenor was 16th to lead the Palmer girls.

Senior Saydi Carduso was 19th to lead Redington.
